Wanted: info on Giddings and Lewis model 25T HBM
Hi all, I am looking for information about a Giddings and Lewis Horizontal Boring machine that I am considering buying. The serial number is 461, model number is 25T. My serial number book says it was built between 1941-1942. I've been searching for information about this machine on the internet and this sight, but I have found very little about them.
What I would like to know are the specifications for the machine. Things like, weight, floor space required, feed travel distances, motor HP, table size, etc. Anything I should be mindful of when I inspect the machine.
One problem I know it has is the clutch pack has some broken and worn disks in it. Does anyone know a source for these new or used? Or if all else is checks out well am I going to have to make these brass and steel disks from scratch?
Does anyone have manuals for one these machines that I could get a copy of, or know where I could get one from. I need more information about this machine before I can decide if it will be a worth while project.
Thanks', for any and all info and advice on this.

I Have one in storage about the same age and close to the serial no. of yours. Mine weighs about 8,000 lbs. Well used. Has a 5 hp motor on it. I have no manuals or any other information for it to help you out. Most of these old machines have tho old 'Twin-Disk' mechanical clutches on them. There are replacements out there, try these guys.
WPT, they may have replacements
WPT Mechanical PTO Clutch - Interchangeable with Twin Disc, Rockford, Technodrive, Transfluid
These guys are your best bet for replacement parts
Carlyle Johnson Clutches and Brakes
Twin Disk is still in business but they don't repair parts to the old multiplie plate mechanical clutches that I'm aware of.
There may be others out there that can shed more light on this subject then me.

collector,
Mine looks just like the one in your second picture, but without the outboard support. I do have the facing head with mine.
Can you scan the sales brocure and send me a copy?
Copy of the drawings would be nice, but I hate to put you up to the troubles. If not too costly, I'll be glad to pay you for set of copies.

I talked to a really helpful guy at G+L years ago about these. No manual available. A few pages of brochures and some really bad blueprints are it. And at great cost.
Interesting machines. Small enough to be unobtrusive. No power feed to the spindle. Soft ways. Lots of plain bearings I believe. MT#4?
Collector. Looks like you have the RT model.
Mine is missing the outboard. Wish it was not. - collectorHot Rolled

WTB: Parts for a Giddings & Lewis HBM 25T(Horizontal boring machine)
Hi all, does anyone have or know where I might find a few parts for a Giddings & Lewis 25 T HBM. I'm looking for the outer bearing support casting complete, boring bar arbors for it also( Morse taper #4 ), and or other tooling and parts. Also I would be interested in getting any literature, drawings, manuals etc for this machine. I would gladly pay for photo copies or originals, as well as all shipping and handling costs.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I now own a G & L 25T HBM I could really use any info I can get.
Hi All, a Giddings & Lewis 25T HBM fallowed me home today. Some assembly required. The serial number is 461, 1941-42. I would really like to get copies of the blue prints and an sales or accessory brochures. Was there a parts manual? I have heard there was not a operation manual, just the blue prints. I would be happy to pay for copies of anything I can get, as well as shipping. If anyone has some of these items or knows where I could get copies please let me know. Please feel free to contact me privately I you wish.
Also if anyone has or knows about a machine being parted out that would be useful to know also.
Thanks for any and all help, I appreciate it very much.

I do not doubt your statement that the 1941-42 machine does not have power feed to the spindle , or RT, but to me this is quite odd. We have a WWI vintage GL number '0' machine at work, that has power all directions, and RT. The drawings we have on it are all dated 1917, and have come in quite handy.
Finding MT5 boring bars , has been a wash. Many went for junk while scrap was high.
