What you might try is to use the Troubleshoot Compatibility tool found in Windows 7. If you have the latest driver downloaded to the desktop of your system, right click on the setup.exe of that driver and select TROUBLESHOOT COMPATIBILITY. Once it is selected it will check if it will be able to install the driver, if it has a possible workaround for you, it will submit 'Try Windows Recommended Settings' as a solution for you.
If you will select it's setting, depending on the device and driver it may try to run the device in XP SP2 Compatibility mode. The limitations will be the same for the device. If it does not have that option it will only submit the 'Customize Settings' selection, this is where you would have to enter the specifics to load the driver.
Give the Troubleshoot Compatibility Tool a try and let us know if this assists you.
One other note Sinon, you may want to delete the reference to the device out of device manager before starting the Troubleshoot Compatibility tool. To delete it out of device manager, click Start ORB / Right Click Computer and Select Properties / Device Manager - if you do not see it listed, be certain it is not listed as an UNKNOWN/Other Device. If it is listed as so click on it and delete it. Reboot your system and do not let it plug and play back.
